Trumpet and Flugelhorn - Hugh Pascall presents new music from his debut album Borderlands with a quartet of star musicians from the UK scene.Influenced by musicians like Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, TomHarrell, Coltrane and Miles, Hugh’s music is a lyrical, vibrant and modern approach to post-bop jazz. It’s straight-ahead jazz with melody, where swinging, modal explorations are complimented by beautiful, atmospheric and expressive ballads rich in harmony and character.
Hugh also brings interpretations of choice standards and tunes in the classic jazz tradition, weaving these into the set alongside music from the new album and other brand new compositions.An award-winning trumpeter and composer, Hugh studied jazz at the Royal Academy of Music and at the Paris Conservatoire and has since developed a highly respected careeras a soloist. Recent projects include playing with such luminaries as The Last Poets, with UK legend Tony Kofi’s Inside Straight and rising star guitarist Aidan Pope’s new Octet.
Piano - Liam Dunachie studied music at Trinity College, Cambridge where he was a choral scholar in its world renowned choir under Stephen Layton. At Cambridge he studied composition with Robin Holloway and Richard Marlow and co-directed the Cambridge University Jazz Orchestra with which he toured Budapest, Rome and performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival.As a composer and arranger he has also produced arrangements in recent months for the City of London Sinfonia and had his work performed by Trinity College Choir on a recent tour across the USA and Canada. He has also worked as a Musical Director for National Youth Music Theatre.
Bass - Dave Whitford studied at the Guildhall and as one of London’s most respected bassists he can frequently be heard with numerous projects in the capital's top venues such as Ronnie Scott's, The Vortex, The 606 and The Jazz Cafe. He has also toured extensively nationally and internationally appearing at the Xerox Rochester International jazz festival, Abu Dhabi jazz festival, The Brecon jazz festival, San Sebastian jazz festival and Love Supreme festival to name a few.
Drums - Jay Davis is an award-winning drummer and composer based in London. a proud recipient of the Yamaha Jazz scholar prize, Jay studied with drummers Dave Walsh, Jeff Williams and Martin France at Leeds College of Music and The Royal Academy of Music
respectively. Jay has performed throughout the UK, Europe and Asia at festivals and venues including umbria jazz festival, Jimmy glass (Valencia), Jazzwerkstatt (Graz), Bimhuis (Amsterdam), die nato (Leipzig)
